About

One of my all time favorite articles is called From the Homefront: What You Don't See. In the article, Lewis states, "I like to think that good parenting (and might I add life in general?!) is like a duck on the water. What you see is the gentle, almost effortless gliding, not the furious paddling that happens underneath."

Lewis also says, "I started a blog last fall. I dragged my feet into it for many reasons. One of the main reasons I hesitated was I didn't want to be another contributor to the cyberspace guiltoshpere out there... do we need one more reason to feel guilty? Because from the looks of things, other families are happier, their houses are cleaner, their marriages are better, their clothes are more stylish and their craftiness is even more crafty. Their lives are perfectly lovely, while my kids are running around screaming in their diapers."

I love blogging. I try to be authentic and real when I post but sometimes I feel like a hypocrite. When I post about the things that I'm loving, there are usually an equal amount of things I'm hating that I choose not to post about. For that reason, I have considered giving up on blogging multiple times.

However, I have learned in the past few years that I have three main therapies: running, blogging, and talking on the phone with my mom or a friend while I clean. (Cleaning without good phone conversation never happens.)

So basically I can't quit this dumb blog because somehow it keeps me from going crazy.

I am a duck. (I'm not a swan because my life's just not that glamorous.) This blog mostly documents the gliding on top of the surface part of my life living in Iowa with my husband, Spencer, and two boys, Jack and David. If you want to hear about the furious paddling underneath part, you should talk to me on the phone while I clean :)
