Hannah's Wedding

Last weekend I went to Utah for my cousin, Hannah's wedding. The Sheets lived in Arizona with us during most of my childhood and then moved to Utah the same time I moved to Utah for college so I have a lot of fun memories with the Sheets cousins and I love them so much! Kate came with me and I almost forgot how hard it is to fly with a baby this age! Thankfully the flight was just an hour and a half. (I used to fly by myself from Alabama to Arizona with Jack at this age with layovers and much longer flights, and then from Iowa to Arizona with a toddler and a baby!) I've got flying by myself with babies down to a science and I still hate it! #firstworldproblems

We got to Utah around the same time James, Maddie and Calvin flew in! I'm so glad Kate has a Wirthlin cousin her age!


We hung out with Grandma Wirthlin for a bit then went to Elizabeth's lacrosse game in the pouring rain!




Saturday was Hannah and Jack's big day! It was a rainy but happy day!


My grandma's knees froze in the rain so we got her a wheel chair while we waited for Papa to pick her up.

On Mother's Day, we had dinner with my grandparents and the Sheets. I'm glad Hannah's wedding fell on Mother's Day weekend so I got to spend time with my mom and grandmas!
Elizabeth created this beautiful picture while snap chatting away at church! haha I actually helped my mom buckle her shoes that morning because she couldn't see to buckele them herself so this picture is actually a deep portrayal of the circle of motherhood!

We flew back home on Monday. I had a great first girl's trip with Kate and I'm glad Hannah married someone as awesome as her! :)



Spencer decided to take Jack and David camping in Sedona while we were gone and my father-in-law decided to fly down and join them. They had a great time! Maybe when Kate is older we will be brave enough to try camping as a family :)

Catch up

I am way behind on my blog! It's funny to me that when Jack was a baby, I blogged because I was bored and had nothing to do but now I have to really make time to blog or else I would never do it.
Things we've been up to (in bullet points because I have a hard time blogging without bullet points ;)

• The boys went camping two weekends ago for our ward's fathers and sons camp out. Kate stayed home with me and we went shopping (where she threw her first tantrum ever) and I gave her a bath (where she pooped and ATE IT!) Hopefully our girl's weekend will be more enjoyable next year!

• We discovered a new restaurant that we love!!! Jalepeno Bucks is it's own style of BBQ (they say Arizona style) and Mexican food. It's perfect for me and Spencer because he is all about the meat and I am all about the Mexican food :) The mango salsa is to DIE FOR!!!

 

•  It is getting hot in Arizona. I am amazed at how much usage we are getting in our tiny little backyard :)

 

• Our next door neighbors are moving soon and I'm SO SAD!!! I don't know what we will do without spontaneous play dates every day!

• David "graduated" from three-year-old preschool!!! There is no need for Pinterest when you send your kid to Eck Hollow Preschool! :) He had such a great year of preschool!

• Spencer and I went to the Taylor Swift concert!!! I loved it, and Spencer did too ;)

 
 
 

• I'm loving my ONE year old!!! Kate is getting so fun and we love seeing her little personality come out. I don't know if I will ever stop taking pictures of my babies sleeping because it's just so dang cute :)

 Kate's 1 year old stats (actually 13 month stats because that's when I got around to getting her to the dr). She was in the 50th percentile for weight and 97th for height)
 

• Jack's friend's mom sent him home with a bunch of rocks she found from her older son's rock collection. Jack spent 10 minutes showing me each rock and telling me about them. haha! Side story: Jack was watching a documentary on the Ipad yesterday and David came up to him (frustrated because he hates Jack's documentaries) and said, "Jack! Why are you learning about dinosaurs? You already know everything about them!" Jack responded, "Actually, David, I am learning about the weather right now!" (It was a tornado show!) haha

 

•  We had our last t-ball game last week. David yelled at us every 5 minutes asking when it was going to be over and Jack finished off the season with a bucket over his head! hahaha Better luck next year. (Although Spencer insists that there won't be a next year with T-ball! lol)

• Our backup plan since Jack refuses to get on his bike. He loved this one so much and said, "This is so much better, mom! I'm NEVER riding my bike again." Wonderful. lol

• David started giving Kate rides on his tractor this week. She is obsessed with it now and I think it's so dang cute :)

David:

David called a thermometer a "fever machine" the other day! We were dying! haha It makes sense though...

David tells me and Spencer at least once a day that he loves us. It is usually just randomly during the day too :) He is also a little stinker and WILL NOT ever let me take a power nap. I swear he can't make it 15 minutes without waking me up and asking for something. A few weeks ago, I was trying to take a quick nap while Kate was sleeping and he came into my room, woke me up and said, "Mom! I... I... I.... just love you!" I love that little turd too :)

"Mom! Did you know that Coach Nick's name is Nick?!"

 Jack:

"I am a Utah baby and David is an Alabama baby and Kate is an Iowa baby and mom is a California baby and dad is a Mexican baby!" (He somehow confused Mexico with Idaho! hahahaha)

Jack always tells us that he wants to move to California next! (I guess if you've lived in 4 states in just six years of life, you assume you are going to move to another state.) "Mom, I want to move to California because it's just right (referring to the weather), it's not all just about the shells!"

Jack told me the other day that he was going to ask Santa for diamonds this year. (My boy loves rocks, minerals, and sea shells! haha)

Jack got his feelings hurt by his friends and was crying while we were driving in the car with them a few weeks ago. When we got home, I pulled him aside from everyone to talk to him and he said, "I know what you are going to tell me, mom!" He then told me word for word our affirmations we practice every night before bed:

"Even though mean words and mean things people do sometimes hurt me, I love being me. I am kind, I am smart, I am brave, I am handsome, I am strong, I am good, I am a child of God."

I love my kids but I want them to remember to love themselves too and have tools to use when they get hurt and when I can't tell them how amazing they are! I'm glad this affirmation is sticking for Jack!

Things I'm Loving

• Free Joe's BBQ! It was customer appreciation day earlier this week and they gave out free meals! I timed it perfectly so that we only waited in a 10 minute line to get food, but Jack and David insisted on waiting in the balloon line that ended up being a 45 minute line!!! I even bribed them with the dollar store but they wouldn't give. At least they were all happy waiting in the line, surprisingly! haha

 
 
 

•  The IDEA Museum. We used our POGO pass to go check it out. It was a small little museum, but surprisingly my kids really liked it, especially Kate!

•  Kinetic sand - I may have blogged about this earlier but Jack got some kinetic sand from my parents for his birthday in November and at first, I was really careful about putting it away after we got it out. Then I realized that they hardly ever got it out when it was tucked away in their closet, so I put it out on their table in the back yard and just leave it there now and they play with it almost every day! It obviously doesn't last as long when we leave it out (I just bought our third replacement) but price-per-play it is totally worth it!

 
 This picture cracks me up! Jack with his creepy smile, David wearing his goggles and Kate just happy to be there :)  She still can't resist putting the dang sand in her mouth every time she plays with it. I don't get it because she is getting picky about food, but not about sand!

•  Bobas!!! I met my friends to get bobas and now 2/3 of my children like bobas! (Jack is just too picky! haha) Kate and David drank so much of my boba that I ended up buying another one :)

 

• Morning weekend walks. Jack and Kate have been waking up super early on the weekends now that it's getting lighter in the mornings (whaaaaa!!!) so I've been clearing them out in the mornings so that David and Spencer can sleep a little longer. (Spencer wakes up so dang early on the weekdays so I feel like I owe it to him ;) I think I will forever miss my Iowa trail but my AZ walking paths are growing on me :)

• Church views ;)

 

• Paying the big bucks to basically watch Jack and David play rock paper scissors for an hour ;) #tballisrough

• This nacho discovery - my mom picked some up when she was visiting back in February and we are now regulars. It's sooooo yummy!

• My Costco date with Jack this morning. Spencer worked from home this morning before they left for the father's and son's camp out so while Kate slept and David played the Ipad, I picked up Jack from school and took him to Costco with me. It is rare that I'm ever alone with this boy and I really enjoyed my time with my oldest baby! He is such a sweet and curious boy and I love him to death!  He felt so bad for me that I wasn't going camping with them! haha When they pulled out Spencer said that he said that he wished that it was "father's and son's and mom's too". #metoobud
